5 Apps That Help You Budget Your Money

Apps that Help You Budget Your Money

It is really easy to blow your budget each month. If you don’t keep track of your expenses you can find yourself wondering what the heck happened at the end of the month.

Those cups of coffee and drive-thru lunches add up and unless you are seeing it every day, it can blow your budget for the month and actually cause you to be in the red. But when you are on the go it is hard to keep track of what you’re spending.

Thankfully there are some amazing mobile apps that help you budget your money on the go!

There are some things you should think about before downloading any app to budget your money. It will save you a lot of headaches if you research the app fully and ask yourself the following questions before committing.

1. Does the app meet the majority of your needs?

The app you need to download is one that you are going to use on a daily basis. There could be a ton of features making it seem like a great choice. But once you start really using it you may find that you use less than 10% of them and things that you need are not there.

It can be very frustrating to have to start all over again because an app wasn’t right for you.

2. Should you upgrade or not?

A lot of apps have the free version and the pro version. The pro version most likely has several added features that are not available in the free version. Before buying, ask yourself if the added features are going to be useful to you. If not, stick with the free version. If you don’t like all the ads, which we all know can be a pain, it may be good for you to upgrade.

3. How secure is your app?

Some apps that help you budget your money (like PocketGuard) will ask for personal information about your bank accounts, etc. Before entering any kind of personal information, make sure that not only is the app secure but so is your device. A lot of people have gotten themselves into serious trouble by using these types of apps on an unsecure mobile device.

4. Does your bank have an app?

Some of the more popular banking companies have apps that allow you to not only bank by mobile but also budget your money. 80% of the time these apps are free. So before you go spending a ton on an app you found online, ask your bank if they have an app.

PocketGuard is hands down my favorite app for budgeting money. It is an all-in-one bank account tracking and budget management app that shows you how much you’ve got in your accounts, as well as how much you can afford to spend for the day. The app syncs to your bank account and bank card through an encrypted, read-only connection. It allows you to quickly see how much is left in your accounts and how much you can spend before you accidentally overdraft your account.

The best part is that it automatically sorts your purchases, bill payments, and subscriptions.

Mint.com is actually a web-based app that you can sync to your mobile devices. It brings together your bank account, credit cards, bank cards, and bills to let you know where you stand financially at any time. You can see where you are blowing your budget as well as where you could budget more. Another great feature is that you can keep an eye on your credit score for free. And, as if that is not enough, Mint will go as far as to suggest budgets for you based on your spending habits.

It has received multiple awards and accolades, making it one of the best budget and banking apps on the market.

Wally aims to bring all of the financial information you need into easy view so you can quickly take control of your finances. Neat features include social and location tools for your expenses, allowing you to record not only how much you spend, but also where and with whom, as well as detailed infographics of your spending.

You can set a savings target and spending target. They are quickly referenced on the main screen making this not only a great app for budgeting money but also very user-friendly.

Spendee is another user-friendly app for people who may not be as technologically advanced. Like the others, you can connect your bank, add expenses, track expenses, and even add a special “wallet” for events like the holidays, anniversaries, birthdays, and vacations. If you are traveling out of the country you can even change the currencies. You can also sync with other family members if needed.

While this one sounds a lot like the others, one thing that makes Spendee stand out is the beautiful infographics and charts they use to keep track of everything. Not only is it functional, it’s pretty. This really helps people who are more visual when budgeting!

Budgeting your money should be as unique as you. If you are going to stay on track you need to find an app that is just for you. If you can, try a few of them out and then see which works best for you and your family. With the right app you will find that budgeting and saving money is easier than you ever thought possible.
